Medicare supplies the Graseby MR10 Monitor for Rental. Proven over 22 years of use to bring complete reliability to infant monitoring in hospital, at home and on the move. The MR10 is a single channel respiration monitor with a choice of a 10 or 20 second apnea delay. To work, the Monitor requires a Respiration Sensor. The Sensor is attached to the baby’s abdomen and is linked to the Monitor by a narrow tube.

A breathing signal is picked up by the soft, foam filled Sensor (Respiration Sensor) attached to the infant’s abdomen. During breathing, expansion of the abdominal wall causes a small amount of air to pass through the Sensor and tube to the Monitor. During breathing the Monitor will also make an audible click and give a simultaneous visual indication. If the selected alarm time (20sec.) is breached (i.e. if no breath is detected after 20sec.) an audiovisual alarm is triggered.

The Sensor is a disposable item and should be replaced after a maximum of 7 days to minimise false alarms.

Rental Payments

A minimum hire charge of €85 is applicable for one month. The first month’s rental is paid in advance. Payments thereafter are processed on the 1st of every month in arrears. Instead of being tied into another month’s rental, you pay only for the days you have it - the daily rate is €2.83. The date you return it the payment will stop automatically.

Rental Items - Payment: Credit or Debit Card details are required for items hired through the website, by phone or in person. To ensure the security of payment details entered through this website we use the Realex Payments and Paypal payment processing system. A member of Medicare's Customer Service Team will confirm your card details with you for security.

Product Details

The Monitor is powered by 4 LR6 (AA) alkaline batteries. Batteries are included when a unit is rented. A low battery indicator is included on the main panel of the monitor. The MR10 continues to guarantee reliable performance when used with the Graseby Respiration Sensor and a long battery life of up to 60 days.

Peace of mind while baby sleeps

Everyone has brief pauses in their breathing called Apnea – even babies and children. These brief pauses are completely normal; however, they can cause concern if breathing stops for 20 seconds or longer. Apnea in babies and children usually goes away of its own accord, and if it doesn’t cause any difficulties (such as low blood oxygen), may even be considered as part of the child’s normal breathing pattern. Sometimes, it is not known why some infants stop breathing, and the following advice may help to reduce the risk of this happening:

position the infant as advised by the midwife/clinician
do not smoke near the infant and avoid smoky atmospheres
take steps to prevent the infant becoming too hot
contact a doctor immediately if you suspect that the infant is unwell

A Respiration Monitor maintains constant surveillance against the event of unpredictable extended apnea (cessation of breathing). A parent may require an infant respiration monitor solely for peace of mind but they may be prescribed for the following babies:

premature
low birth weight
multiple births
ex-special care baby unit patients
siblings of prior cot death
babies with respiratory problems
babies who experienced acute/apparent life treating events

Important:

Before ordering we advise that you seek your doctor’s advice on using a monitor and on what to do in a case of emergency.
The monitoring equipment only informs of an apnea attack, it cannot prevent one.

For the equipment to be instrumental in preventing a “cot death”, it is essential that the user obtains professional resuscitation
training. This point cannot be emphasised enough, as any warning given by a monitor will not be effective if you do not know
how to react, in such a situation.
